"How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place" by Johannes Brahms

This beloved choral work is the fourth movement from Brahms’ German Requiem. Written between 1865 and 1868, it may have been composed in response to the death of his mother. In contrast to the traditional Roman Catholic requiem text, Brahms wrote his own libretto based on Luther’s German Bible.

Ps 84:1-2, 4 How lovely is Thy dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts,
For my soul, it longeth, yea, fainteth for the courts of the Lord.
My soul and body crieth out, yea, for the living God.
O blest are they that dwell within Thy house,
They praise Thy name evermore.

"Nunc Dimittis" by Orlando Gibbons

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace,
According to Thy word.
For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation,
Which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
To be a light to lighten the Gentiles,
And to be the glory of Thy people Israel,
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, and is now, and ever shall be
World without end, Amen.
